VH1 savior or VH1 casualty?
Written by Lilian | Filed Under: Audrina, News, Projects

Audrina Patridge’s new show Audrina debuts on VH1 in April, the question now is whether Audrina is what VH1 needs or will Audrina be the latest VH1 ratings victim. VH1 has placed dead last in the ratings with awful shows like You’re Cut Off, The X-Life, and Brandy & Ray J with ratings under a million or close to zero. The highest rated shows VH1 has are Basketball Wives and Celebrity Rehab reaching as high as 1.3 million, but nothing more than that, while sister-network MTV and other networks have millions more viewers. Ever since The Hills became more vulnerable in the last three and a half seasons, competition gained immensely on other networks, even at MTV with Jersey Shore and Teen Mom. So it all comes down to whether Audrina Patridge has enough muscle, a strong following, or star power to generate the ratings/ popularity both VH1 and Audrina are hoping for.
But the fact that Audrina Patridge’s Audrina so far looks like her own take of Keeping Up With The Kardashians where fans are use to seeing Audrina on film (The Hills), not video. Or confessionals. A saving grace for Audrina is that her popularity helped Dancing With The Stars achieve their highest ratings ever, where she did better than expected even challenging Jennifer Grey. Plus, Audrina’s mom Lynn gave a tirade to Lauren Conrad after Audrina was eliminated from DWTS which gave Audrina some attention. But is Audrina’s popularity strong enough for people to remember Lynn’s incident and tune into her new show? Yes, it worked for Jersey Shore this week via Snooki’s drunken aftermath, but not for The Hills the second or third time with Lauren Conrad’s rumored Justin-Bobby affair or Speidi’s spontaneous eloping. VH1 also is a factor depending on how well it promotes Audrina and/or if viewers are engaged in other entertaining pleasures at that time where then it could be no fault to Audrina Patridge if it fails, though JS should be done by then. On the other hand, VH1 could be so well abandoned by the public that no matter what VH1 and Audrina Patridge do, people just won’t tune in. And on top of VH1′s dead last ratings, Audrina Patridge has Lauren Conrad to worry about with her new show on MTV that’s sure to gain some muscle. Audrina Patridge and VH1 must do the best they can to gain and maintain an audience, even though this reporter thinks that Audrina is better off on MTV scheduled as a companion show right next to Lauren Conrad. Otherwise, Audrina may have to reunite with Adam DiVello again to do The Hills, this time about Audrina, as a mode of desperation.
